VSSTV - Very Slow Scan Television (2006) - Gebhard Sengmüller
“Very Slow Scan Television (VSSTV) is a new television format that we have developed building upon Slow Scan Television (SSTV), an image transmission system used by Ham Radio amateurs. VSSTV uses broadcasts from this historic public domain television system and regular bubble wrap to construct an analogous system: Just as a Cathode Ray Tube mixes the three primary colors to create various hues, VSSTV utilizes a plotter-like machine to fill the individual bubbles with one of the three primary CRT colors, turning them into pixels on the VSSTV “screen”. Large television images with a frame rate of one per day are the result, images that take the idea of slow scan to the extreme.”

I made a mix for some friends, but i’ll share it with you too. It’s about love and how it categorically permeates into the darkness within the oscillating frameworks of the human conditions within.

I had the great fortune of having dinner in Atlanta the other night with St. Vincent and Mr. Bradford Cox. I mention this here because some of you might not know who he is, which is just criminal. Atlas Sound is simply all I can listen to these days. They are currently on tour with Broadcast (another gem), so hop on it.

I am just simply cut off from the world outside of this tour, so I do not have anything else to post about. The St. Vincent crew is a dream, so I totally don’t mind being wrapped up in it. Hope you guys are enjoying the videos.

I am, right now, on the road with St. Vincent as they tour around this great nation of ours with Andrew Bird. I have been charged with the task of documenting said tour, and the first installment of the videos is live, son. More videos and updates will be posted on St. Vincent’s blog, so check back there soon.
We will be in New Orleans tomorrow. I can’t wait.

Phoenix is much more popular than I realized, and certainly more popular than can be assessed from this shitty picture I took.
I had a very special evening. Thank you Aaron, and all the Chairlifters, for the solid hang.

I have posted about NEEN art before, but I was reminded over the weekend how special it is.
Much Better Than This is still my favorite piece, despite the links that were added to the top of the page. The interactive ones are a little but silly to me, but overall I am a big fan of this stuff. Take a moment to play around.

Here is the Artist Series video I just finished featuring the young and talented Curtis Mann.
The photography he creates contains a controlled violence that is really appealing to me, and his process is very interesting to watch. I highly suggest you check out more of his work on his site, and also the interview he did with Joerg Colberg at Conscientious.
You can also view more Artist Series videos on my website.
